Within the context of the “Decade of Action to achieve the 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” the United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has called a Food Systems Summit to be held in New York, in September 2021, during the opening week of the United Nations General Assembly.
On the occasion, the Secretary-General shall present the document containing action principles which will be based on perspectives and comments from Member States, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders.
Brazil has played an active role in the process of consultations and discussions of the reports within the scope of the Summit’s five action tracks:
Action Track 1: Access to nutritious food for all
Action Track 2: Healthy and Sustainable consumption patterns
Action Track 3: Nature-positive food production
Action Track 4: Promote equitable livelihoods and distribution of value
Action Track 5: Build resilience to vulnerabilities, shocks, and stress
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has held frequent meetings and consultations with relevant bodies at the federal administration level. As part of the consultation process, the government has launched today at www.gov.br/mre/pt-br/cupula-2021-sistemas-alimentares-dialogos a national dialogue with civil society, academia, and the business community.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as the coordinator of the national dialogue, will hold videoconferences on the five action tracks, at dates to be informed in due time. Based on the comments received, the Brazilian Government will submit a document to the UN to support the preparatory process in New York.
All food systems-related sectors are invited to participate in this important national dialogue process.
