Mr. Erik Solheim elected new Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP)
The Brazilian Government welcomes the election of Mr. Erik Solheim as Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), on May 13 by the UN General Assembly.
The Brazilian Government congratulates Mr. Erik Solheim and reiterates its commitment to the works of UNEP. The technical ability and political experience of Mr. Solheim will help promote the strengthening of both UNEP and the Environment Assembly (UNEA), following the outcomes of the Rio+20 Conference.
The Brazilian Government will continue to support the work of UNEP, which is the body responsible for setting the UN environmental agenda towards the promotion of the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainable development within the framework of the recently approved 2030 Agenda.
