MERCOSUR and Canada resume Free Trade Agreement negotiations
In the context of Brazil’s pro tempore presidency of MERCOSUR, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a meeting on October 9 and 10 to resume negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement between MERCOSUR and Canada.
Chief negotiators from MERCOSUR and Canada took part in the meeting, which aimed to outline the next steps in the negotiations, with a view to reaching a balanced and mutually beneficial agreement.
The resumption of talks, launched in 2018 and suspended in 2021, reflects the interest of both parties in deepening economic and trade relations, thus promoting greater productive integration between the economies of MERCOSUR and Canada.
Trade between Brazil and Canada amounted to $9.1 billion in 2024, with a Brazilian surplus of $3.5 billion.
