Meeting of the Brazil-Portugal Permanent Bilateral Commission – Brasília, January 22, 2025
On January 22, the Brazil-Portugal Permanent Bilateral Commission will convene in Brasília.
Established by the Porto Seguro Treaty (2000) to structure dialogue and cooperation between the two countries, the Brazil-Portugal Permanent Bilateral Commission serves as a preparatory forum for the Brazil-Portugal Summit. The 14th edition of the Summit will be held on February 19 in Brasília, under the leadership of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister of Portugal, Luís Montenegro.
The XIV Summit will be preceded by a State visit to Brazil by the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, on February 18.
Relations between Brazil and Portugal are unique, grounded in a shared history and strong ties of friendship. In 2025, the two countries will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic relations. Currently, more than 400,000 Brazilians reside in Portugal, and around 150,000 Portuguese nationals live in Brazil.
Portugal is an important European trading partner for Brazil. In 2024, total trade between Brazil and Portugal reached USD 4.7 billion. Brazilian exports accounted for USD 3.4 billion, resulting in a national surplus of USD 2.1 billion.
