Joint Declaration on the Meeting of the Brazil-Argentina Bilateral Consultation and Coordination Mechanism in Defense and Security - 2023 Edition
The second edition of the Brazil-Argentina Bilateral Consultation and Coordination Mechanism in Defense and International Security was held today at the Itamaraty Palace.
The meeting was chaired by the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha, and the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces, Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, on the Brazilian side, and by the Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Pablo Tettamanti, by the Secretary of International Defense Affairs of Argentina, Francisco Cafiero, and by the Argentine Ambassador to Brazil, Daniel Scioli, on the Argentine side.
The resumption of the Mechanism, with its last meeting held in Buenos Aires in April 2018, reflects the commitment of Brazil and Argentina to continue deepening their relationship in defense and international security, thus cementing their strategic partnership.
During the meeting, Brazil and Argentina discussed global and regional scenarios. They also exchanged information on the United Nations peacekeeping operations and on the Zone of Peace and Cooperation in the South Atlantic, of which both countries are members.
Brazil and Argentina also discussed bilateral defense cooperation, with a focus on joint projects in the area of defense products, military exchange and joint exercises between the two countries.
In conclusion, both parties celebrated the resumption of the Mechanism and reaffirmed their readiness to continue strengthening the bilateral dialogue on defense and international security between Brazil and Argentina.
