PRESS RELEASE Nº 361
Israeli Airstrike on Al-Tabin School in Gaza City
The Brazilian government condemns, in the strongest terms, the new airstrike carried out today, the 10th, by the Israeli army on civilian infrastructure sheltering displaced persons in the Gaza Strip. The bombing, which hit the Al-Tabin School in Gaza City, resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, including women and children.
Brazil expresses deep solidarity with the families of the victims, the government, and the people of the State of Palestine.
It recalls the requirement, in accordance with International Humanitarian Law, that Israel acts based on the principle of proportionality, taking necessary measures to protect the civilian population in the occupied territories. Disregard for this principle has been recurrent in Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip over the past ten months.
Brazil deplores that, amidst negotiation efforts for an agreement to ensure a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and unhindered access to humanitarian aid in Gaza, the Israeli government continues to adopt measures that lead to the escalation of the conflict and further distance the peoples of the region from achieving peace.
In this context, Brazil calls on the parties to immediately and fully implement the ceasefire plan approved by United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735 (2024).
