PRESS RELEASE N. 27
International Day of Commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust
To mark the International Day in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, observed on January 27, Brazil pays tribute to the victims and survivors.
By reiterating its firm condemnation of any and all acts of antisemitism, Brazil emphasizes that preserving the memory of the victims of the Holocaust also requires the adoption of measures to fight disinformation, hate speech, and historical denialism, especially in the digital environment.
The International Day in memory of the Victims of the Holocaust was established by United Nations General Assembly resolution 60/7, presented by Israel and co-sponsored by Brazil. Adopted in 2005, this resolution calls upon Member States to honor the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and to create educational programs that promote tolerance and help ensure that acts of genocide are never repeated.
