G20 Leaders Summit – Hangzhou, China, September 4-5, 2016

The President of the Republic, Michel Temer, will participate, on September 4 and 5, in the 11th G20 Leaders Summit, in Hangzhou, China.

The 2016 G20 Summit will have as one of its central themes the promotion of inclusive and innovative economic growth, in addition to consolidating the G20 support to the implementation of the 2030 Development Agenda, with its Sustainable Development Goals. The Heads of State of the world's leading economies are expected to express the political commitment with short-term measures and medium-term structural reforms that will ease the definitive overcoming of the 2008 crisis.

The Summit will have five sessions. President Michel Temer is among the leaders that will open the discussion of the session dedicated to inclusive development and the support of the G20 to the 2030 Agenda. The President will also be able to make interventions in the other sessions, whose themes are the search for news paths to growth (1), economic and financial global governance (2), international trade and investments (3) and other themes that impact the world economy.

On the occasion of his visit to Hangzhou, the President of the Republic will hold bilateral meetings with the President of China, Xi Jinping; with the Prime Minister of Spain, Mariano Rajoy; with the Prime Minister of Italy, Matteo Renzi, and with the Director-General of the World Trade Organization, Ambassador Roberto Azevedo. President Michel Temer will also take part in an informal meeting of the BRICS Leaders.

Ten meetings of the G20 Summit have already been held. Its agenda, initially focused on responses to financial crises, have considerably expanded. With no harm to its technical work, the Group has assumed a more clearly political character, becoming the main platform of macroeconomic coordination of its members. Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States and the European Union are members of the G20. Its members account for around 72% of the world trade, 85% of the gross domestic product and 2/3 of the population of the planet.

Chad, Egypt, Kazakhstan, Laos, Senegal, Singapore, Spain and Thailand will attend the 11th G20 Summit as guests from the Chinese Presidency.
