PRESS RELEASE N. 108
Evacuation of Brazilian citizens from Afghanistan
The Brazilian government has successfully completed the evacuation of two Brazilian nationals and their families from Afghanistan. These citizens had asked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ assistance in leaving that country.
Last Thursday one of the Brazilians, joined by five Afghan relatives, was evacuated to Spain following the Brazilian foreign ministry’s contacts with the governments of Germany and Spain. On August 29, the second Brazilian national, along with six Afghan relatives, was taken to Pakistan via land route, in an operation carried out by the Embassy of Brazil in Islamabad in coordination with the Pakistani government. All of them are safe and in good health.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil continues to monitor the situation of Brazilian citizens who have expressed their interest in remaining in Afghanistan. The Ministry is also aware of requests from Afghans with a residence visa in Brazil, within the legal possibilities to assist foreigners.
