European Union Measure Affecting Brazilian Exports of Animal Products

The Brazilian Government received today, with surprise, the news of Brazil’s removal from the list of countries authorized to export animal products intended for human consumption to the European Union, effective as of 3 September 2026.

The decision stems from the outcome of the vote held today within the framework of the European Commission’s Standing Committee on Plants, Animals, Food and Feed, which approved an update to that listing. It should be underscored that, at present, Brazilian exports of animal products continue without interruption.

The Government of Brazil will promptly undertake all necessary measures to reverse this decision, restore Brazil’s status on the list of authorized countries, and ensure the continued flow of exports of these products to the European market, to which Brazil has exported for the past 40 years.

The Head of the Brazilian Delegation to the European Union already has a meeting scheduled for tomorrow (13 May) with the bloc’s sanitary authorities in order to seek clarifications regarding the decision.

Endowed with a robust sanitary system and internationally recognized quality standards, Brazil is the world’s largest exporter of animal protein and the leading supplier of agricultural products to the European market.
