Election of José Dauster Sette as Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization
Today, March 17th, the Brazilian national José Dauster Sette was elected in London Executive Director of the International Coffee Organization (ICO). Mr. Dauster Sette was elected by acclamation for the 2017-2022 term, amongst nine candidates who had presented their candidacies for the position.
The Brazilian Government has worked hard in favor of the candidate, conducting numerous demarches with all 76 ICO member states, both at the government level and with organizations in the coffee sector. The election of José Sette, which shows the commitment of Brazil to the ICO, will allow for a professional and quality management for the modernization of the main international organization of the coffee sector, in order to reflect the interests and desires of all members and all regions.
José Sette has more than 30 years of experience in the coffee market and has worked for the main bodies of the sector, including the Brazilian Coffee Institute and the International Coffee Organization itself as the Director of Operations, between 2007 and 2012. Since 2013, José Sette held the Executive Direction of the International Cotton Advisory Committee, the main international body of the cotton sector.
The ICO is the main intergovernmental agency for coffee. Its member states represent 98% of the production and 83% of the world consumption of the product. Brazil is the world's leading producer and exporter of coffee, and is also the second largest consumer in the world.
