Press Release n. 512
Election of Brazil to the United Nations Board of Auditors
On November 3, the President of the Federal Court of Accounts of Brazil (TCU), Minister Bruno Dantas, was elected by acclamation to serve on the United Nations Board of Auditors for the term 2024-2030.
Minister Dantas' election is a recognition of his distinguished international career, especially his leadership of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), as well as the technical excellence of the TCU. During Brazil's six-year term, the Ministers who assume the presidency of the TCU will also hold a seat on the Board.
The Board is an independent body composed of only three supreme audit institutions, responsible for auditing the accounts of the United Nations, including its Funds and Programs, and for making recommendations to improve the governance and management of the United Nations system. Although the authority to hold the position is the supreme audit institution of the country, which in Brazil is equivalent to the President of the TCU, the functions are carried out with the support of a team of auditors from the national audit institution. This is the first time that the Brazilian Court of Accounts, in over 130 years of history, will serve on the United Nations Board of Auditors. Brazil is the twelfth largest contributor to the regular budget of the United Nations.
