Diplomatic asylum granted to Ms Nadine Heredia Alarcón

Ms Nadine Heredia Alarcón and her minor son arrived in Brazil this morning, 16 April, from Lima, Peru.

On 15 April, Ms Heredia Alarcón and her son were granted diplomatic asylum under the Convention on Diplomatic Asylum, signed in Caracas on 28 March 1954, to which both countries are parties.

Pursuant to Article XII of that Convention, the Government of Peru issued the requisite guarantees and safe-conduct, enabling Ms Heredia Alarcón and her son to depart Peruvian territory for Brazil.

Ms Heredia Alarcón and her son will now undergo the procedures required to regularise their migratory status in Brazil.
