Death of Brazilian teenager in Israeli prison
The Brazilian government has learned, with deep dismay, of the death of Brazilian citizen Walid Khalid Abdalla Ahmad, 17 years old, in the Israeli Megiddo prison. The teenager, a resident of the West Bank, in the State of Palestine, was detained on September 30, 2024, in occupied Palestine and taken by Israeli forces to the Megiddo prison, in Israeli territory.
The circumstances and exact date of death have not yet been clarified.
In line with its international obligations, the Israeli government must conduct a prompt and independent investigation into the causes of death, and make its conclusions public.
Eleven Brazilian nationals residing in the State of Palestine remain imprisoned in Israel, most of whom have not been formally charged or tried, in clear violation of International Humanitarian Law.
The Representative Office of Brazil to the State of Palestine is in contact with the family of Walid Khalid Abdalla Ahmad and is providing the appropriate consular assistance.
The Brazilian government expresses its solidarity with the family and friends of the national and extends sincere condolences, while continuing to demand from the Israeli government the necessary explanations regarding the death of the minor.
