Creation of Brazil's Group of Friends for Peace in Colombia – March 15, 2016
On March 15, 2016, the Group of Friends from Brazil for the Peace in Colombia was established, with the purpose of following and supporting the peace negotiations between the Government of Colombia and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia – People's Army (FARC-EP).
The creation of the Group of Friends is in line with the Brazilian vocation for the promotion of peace and joins similar initiatives undertaken by other countries in the region, such as Chile, El Salvador, Mexico, Uruguay, Argentina and Costa Rica.
In creating the Group of Friends, Brazil reiterates its support to the peace process and its confidence that the conflict in Colombia can be resolved through dialogue.
The following authorities from the Government and civil society are currently part of the Group of Friends: Professor Marco Aurelio Garcia, Senator Aloysio Nunes Ferreira, Deputy Jô Moraes, Ambassador Antonino Mena Goncalves, Ms. Rosita Milesi, Professor Paulo Sergio Pinheiro, Professor Ivan Marques Toledo and Mr. Clovis Rossi.
