In a ceremony at the Itamaraty Palace, on September 21, 2015, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, and the Mongolian Ambassador in Brasilia, Sosormaa Chuluunbaatar, signed three bilateral acts: the Educational Cooperation Agreement; the Reciprocal Understanding by exchange of notes for Visa Short Term Waiver; and the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between diplomatic academies.
The Educational Cooperation Agreement will allow students from Mongolia to participate in the Exchange Programmes for Undergraduate and Graduate Students (PEC-G and PEC-PG), which provide higher education opportunities for citizens of developing countries with which Brazil maintains educational and cultural agreements.
The Reciprocal Understanding by exchange of notes for Visa Short Term Waiver provides visa exemption for tourism and business travelers, for periods of stay up to 90 days, extendable for an equal period.
The Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between diplomatic academies will allow, among other activities, training of diplomats, organization of joint events and exchange of academics and publications between the Rio Branco Institute and the Diplomatic Academy of Mongolia.
Brazil and Mongolia established diplomatic relations in 1987. In June 2014, Mongolia has inaugurated in Brasilia its first resident Embassy in South America, as part of its strategy to broaden relations with countries from other regions.
