Brazil launches its candidacy for the Human Rights Council (2027–2029)

Today, May 7, Brazil launches its candidacy for the United Nations Human Rights Council (HRC) for the 2027–2029 term. Currently in its sixth term, the country is one of the most active members of the Council throughout its 20 years of existence.

The launch ceremony will be chaired by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha, Minister for Racial Equality Raquel Barros, the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship, Caroline Reis, and the Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Women,  Eutália Barbosa.

By launching its candidacy, Brazil reaffirms its commitment to the multilateral system, to an international order based on International Law, and to the universal promotion and protection of human rights without distinction. Brazil’s candidacy is guided by the promotion of a fair society of nations shaped by diversity, inclusion, and social participation, with a central focus on sustainable development and the fight against hunger and inequality.

As a signatory to the major international human rights treaties, Brazil projects to the Human Rights Council its identity as a democratic and plural nation, governed by the democratic rule of law and by the unwavering respect for the inherent dignity of the human person.
