Brazil endorses the Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy by 2050 — Joint press release by MRE/MME

On Tuesday (March 10) Brazil announced its adherence to the Declaration to Triple Nuclear Energy. The initiative is aimed at mobilizing governments, industries, and financial institutions to expand the world’s installed capacity of this energy source by 2050. The announcement took place during the 2nd Nuclear Energy Summit in Paris, hosted by France and supported by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). On the occasion, China, Belgium, and Italy also joined the initiative, which now has the support of 38 countries.

Launched during COP28 in Dubai, the Declaration is part of efforts to strengthen energy security and meet the growing global demand for energy. At the same time, it seeks to accelerate energy transition through a low-carbon emission source, thus contributing to the achievement of global climate targets.

By endorsing the initiative, Brazil reaffirms its commitment to the responsible development of nuclear energy, in accordance with high standards of safety, security, and non-proliferation. With more than four decades of safe operation of nuclear power plants, the country has mastered the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium mining to fuel fabrication.
