PRESS RELEASE N. 277
Appointment of Dr. Enrique Ricardo Lewandowski as Full Arbitrator of the TPR
The Common Market Council approved today, in Puerto Iguazú, Argentina, by decision CMC 09/23, the Brazilian government's nomination of Dr. Enrique Ricardo Lewandowski, former Minister of the Federal Supreme Court, to serve as chief arbitrator of the Permanent Court of Review (TPR) of the bloc, for a term to begin on July 28. It should be noted that, in 2024, the presidency of the Court will be held by the Brazilian arbitrator.
Established by the 2002 Olivos Protocol for the Settlement of Mercosur Disputes, the Tribunal's mandate is, in cases of disputes or advisory opinions submitted for its consideration, to interpret and propose measures to promote compliance with the instruments and rules on which the integration process is based.
The Brazilian government takes this opportunity to thank the services rendered by the current Brazilian arbitrators of the Tribunal, Dr. Nádia de Araújo (incumbent) and Dr. Marcílio Toscano Franca Filho (alternate), whose terms will expire soon.
The Brazilian nomination for the position of alternate arbitrator will be submitted in due course.
