The president of Ibama is the guest speaker for September at the Biodiversity Forum at the Botanical Garden Museum.
On Monday, September 8, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden will hold another edition of the Biodiversity Forum, with a lecture by Rodrigo Agostinho, president of the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama).
With the theme “The role of Ibama in biodiversity conservation,” the presentation will address the work of the Wild Animal Screening Centers (Cetas), responsible for rehabilitating and returning thousands of animals to nature every year. Cetas play a decisive role in caring for animals that are victims of trafficking, abuse, or accidents, ensuring new chances for a return to life in the wild and strengthening the conservation of Brazilian fauna.
Rodrigo Agostinho is an environmentalist, lawyer, and biologist with extensive experience in environmental management and policy. He was a councilman and mayor of Bauru (SP) before being elected federal deputy for São Paulo, where he served in the Chamber between 2019 and 2023, chairing the Environment and Sustainable Development Commission (CMADS) for two years. He was also a full member of the National Environment Council (Conama) for over 10 years and, since January 2023, has been president of Ibama.
The event will be held in person in the Museum's Multipurpose Room, with 50 places available on a first-come, first-served basis, and will also be broadcast live on the JBRJ YouTube channel. The activity takes place from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and admission is free.
Held monthly at the Botanical Garden Museum, the Biodiversity Forum is coordinated by a council of experts from the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ) and promotes debates on essential environmental issues. The activity is aimed at experts, researchers, students, and other interested parties, and offers a certificate of participation to the public.
The Botanical Garden Museum is sponsored by Shell Brazil and managed by idg - Instituto de Desenvolvimento e Gestão (Institute for Development and Management). Opened in March 2024, the space presents to the public, through exhibitions, interactive content, and cultural programming for all ages, the pioneering work of the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute for the knowledge and conservation of Brazilian flora.
