Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden announces public calls for partnerships

On Tuesday, July 21, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden Research Institute (JBRJ) launched two public calls for partnerships aimed at organizations, institutions, companies, and individuals interested in supporting the institution’s strategic projects and initiatives.

Public Call No. 2/2026, published in Brazil’s Official Gazette (Diário Oficial da União), seeks to select civil society organizations interested in transforming cultural, scientific, environmental, and educational projects into initiatives financed through incentive laws and funding programs. The call also aims to expand the institution’s capacity to implement projects that strengthen the Botanical Garden’s mission and broaden its range of activities for the public.

Eligible applicants include non-profit legal entities with experience in project development, management, and fundraising for cultural, environmental, historical, museum, and educational initiatives. Selected organizations will serve as project proponents, taking responsibility for technical planning, fundraising, implementation, and financial reporting.

In addition to projects already included in JBRJ’s portfolio, the call also welcomes new proposals, provided they align with the institution’s objectives and contribute to biodiversity conservation, the preservation of historical and scientific heritage, and the democratization of access to culture and knowledge.

The initiative is intended to expand funding opportunities for strategic projects through mechanisms such as federal, state, and municipal cultural incentive laws, as well as public and private funding programs dedicated to research, the environment, and cultural heritage.

Potential initiatives include exhibitions, educational activities, cultural events, museum projects, environmental education programs, restoration of historic buildings, infrastructure improvements, publications, science communication activities, and other projects that strengthen the institution and foster greater public engagement.

Public Call No. 1/2026 seeks to expand the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden’s network of supporters by enabling individuals, companies, and institutions to contribute directly to the institution’s strategic projects and activities through partnerships that do not involve the transfer of financial resources, with the possibility of institutional recognition and brand association as counterparts.

The call covers partnerships supporting initiatives in the following areas:

• Maintenance and conservation of the arboretum;
• Scientific research, technological development, and innovation projects;
• Human resource training to promote environmental education;
• Science, technology, and innovation communication initiatives;
• Maintenance and restoration of JBRJ's historic buildings;
• Projects that promote the cultural and historical value of JBRJ's tangible and intangible heritage;
• Expansion of cultural activities offered to Botanical Garden visitors.

This public call will remain open for up to two years, or until it is replaced by a new call.
