Light of Stories in the Garden: Activity about Bumba-meu-boi celebrates National Historical Heritage Day at the Botanical Garden
On August 28, at 2:30 p.m., the Galpão das Artes at the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden will host another edition of Luz de Histórias no Jardim (Light of Stories in the Garden). The special program celebrates National Historical Heritage Day (August 17) with storytelling about Bumba-meu-boi, a narrative that inspires the traditional Maranhão festival recognized by IPHAN as Brazilian Cultural Heritage.
The activity will be led by Thaiane Leal, storyteller, actress, and theater teacher in Rio's public school system. With 15 years of experience, Thaiane has taken her stories to schools, squares, libraries, theaters, and literary events throughout Brazil, participating in festivals such as Mostra Sesc Cariri, the Ponta Grossa Storytellers Festival, and the São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras Storytelling Festival, among others.
The event will be accessible in Brazilian Sign Language, ensuring that the deaf audience can also enjoy the experience and connect with the story.
The activity is part of the Botanical Garden's Cultural Program and is presented by Light, the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro, and the State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy, through the State Law for the Encouragement of Culture, with the support of Salvatore in partnership with the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro.
