LiberTango closes the year of Domingo no Jardim with a meeting between tango and Brazilian music
Trio keeps the legacy of Argentine Piazzolla alive
In the last edition of the year, Domingo no Jardim presents the group LiberTango on December 28. Formed by pianist Estela Caldi and her sons, Alexandre Caldi (saxophones and flutes) and Marcelo Caldi (accordion), the trio has kept the legacy of Argentine Astor Piazzolla alive in Brazil for almost three decades. The highlight of the performance is the encounter between Argentine tango and Brazilian music. The repertoire includes Piazzolla's hits, such as “Adiós, nonino,” “Libertango,” and “Años de soledad,” as well as “9 de julho” by Ernesto Nazareth and compositions by Villa-Lobos and Tom Jobim.
LiberTango has released five albums: “Quatro ventos” (Independent, 2017, with Soraya Ravenle), “Tangos hermanos” (Mills, 2014), ‘Porteño’ (Delira, 2010), “Cierra tus ojos y escucha” (Delira, 2007), and “LiberTango – a música de Astor Piazzolla” (Delira, 2005). It was the highlight of the first Festival Internacional Tango Brasil, at CCBB-RJ, in 2013, in addition to having been awarded in several other competitions, such as Caixa Cultural (2016 and 2018), Furnas Cultural (2015), Quintas no BNDES (2018), and others. Among the instrumentalists who have played with the group are Yamandu Costa, Hamilton de Holanda, Renato Borghetti, and Nicolas Krassik, as well as singers Soraya Ravenle, Nina Wirtti, and Grazie Wirtti.
The performance will take place in front of the bust of Dom João at 11 a.m. The show is free, with only the arboretum entrance fee charged.
