Flora and Funga and Catalog of Brazilian Fauna join the Global Names Verifier
The Flora and Funga do Brasil and Catálogo da Fauna do Brasil platforms are now included as references in the Global Names Verifier, an international tool that allows scientific name lists or systems (via API) to have their names validated from biodiversity databases.
This is another important step toward achieving the goals set out in the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (EPANB) and Goal 21 of Conabio Resolution No. 9/2024, which establishes the National Biodiversity Goals for 2030.
Goal 21 establishes "Ensure, by 2030, the production, qualification, accessibility, interoperability, and reusability of data, information, and knowledge on Brazilian biodiversity, considering different territorial scales and data sources, including raw data repositories, in order to guide public policies, promote effective and equitable governance and integrated and participatory management of biodiversity and socio-biodiversity data, and strengthen communication, awareness, education, monitoring, research, and knowledge management, ensuring its collective benefit and with the participation of indigenous peoples, traditional peoples and communities, family farmers, and peasants in its governance, in accordance with national legislation and relevant international obligations, ensure that the traditional knowledge, innovations, practices, and technologies of indigenous peoples, traditional peoples and communities, family farmers, and peasants are only accessed with their free, prior, and informed consent and with the fair and equitable sharing of the benefits arising therefrom."
