Duo Santoro opens the new season of Sunday in the Garden on January 4
The 2026 season of Domingo no Jardim (Sunday in the Garden) begins this Sunday, January 4, with the cello duo formed by brothers Paulo and Ricardo Santoro. They have chosen a repertoire filled with hits to entertain the audience at the beginning of the year, with famous works ranging from classical to popular. The program includes, for example, Brahms' “Hungarian Dance No. 5” and “Fico assim sem você” by Claudinho and Buchecha, as well as well-known songs from the Italian songbook.
The only cello duo in permanent activity in Brazil since its debut in 1990, Duo Santoro has released four albums and has performed throughout Brazil and abroad, including a recital at Carnegie Hall in New York. Paulo and Ricardo hold master's degrees from UFRJ and UNIRIO and are members of the Brazilian Symphony Orchestra and the UFRJ Symphony Orchestra. In 2018, they performed at the Teatro Real in Córdoba (Argentina) and recorded the CD “Retratos de Brasil en Córdoba” as soloists with the Orquesta Académica del Teatro del Libertador, performing João Guilherme Ripper's concerto “Duplum,” dedicated to the Duo.
The performance at the Rio Botanical Garden will take place in front of the bust of Dom João at 11 a.m. The show is free, with only the arboretum entrance fee charged.
