Duo Madri brings guitars from the Baroque era to Latin American music for Domingo no Jardim
Formed by guitarists Adriana Ballesté and Mara Lúcia Ribeiro, Duo Madri is the attraction at Domingo no Jardim on December 21. The show's repertoire takes the audience on a journey through time and space, from German Baroque, with Christian Gottlieb Scheidler and Johann Sebastian Bach, through French Impressionism, with Claude Debussy and Gabriel Fauré, to the impetus of Spaniards Manuel de Falla and Isaac Albeniz.
The duo also travels through Latin America, with the Argentine milongas of Jorge Cardoso and Abel Fleury, the Paraguayan dances of Augustin Barrios, and the Brazilian spirit of contemporaries Egberto Gismonti, Arthur Verocai, Luis Carlos Barbieri, Maria do Céu, Rick Ventura, and Sergio Assad.
Adriana Ballesté holds a PhD in Musicology from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. She has been conducting research in the cultural field since 1994. Since 2011, she has coordinated the Virtual Museum of Musical Instruments. In 2017, she released the CD Chuva no Mar.
Mara Lúcia holds a bachelor's degree in guitar from the School of Music at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. A specialist in flamenco guitar, she has performed in several flamenco companies. She has been a guitar teacher at the Villa-Lobos School of Music for 40 years.
Currently, Adriana and Mara Lúcia are members of the AV-RIO Guitar Orchestra.
The performance was scheduled for May and was postponed due to rain. It is free of charge and begins at 11 a.m. in the area in front of the bust of D. João. In case of moderate rain, it will be moved to the Galpão das Artes.
