Under Brasil’s presidency, the G20 now has official headquarters where several activities are going to be carried out throughout this year. The Serpro Regional Brasília building is undergoing a transformation and being adapted to accommodate G20 technical working group and task force meetings.

Fiscal engineer Luana de Oliveira took our team on a journey through the metamorphosis that the 15,000 square meter building is undergoing. In addition to the layout of the facade and internal areas, the building will harbor rooms for specific G20 events. The main hall, for example, will host face-to-face meetings beginning in March.

All in all, approximately 20 rooms are being prepared to host the meetings. The press area will be transformed into a place for coworking, offering an efficient environment for coverage of the event. The G20 headquarters are also equipped with video conference rooms where remote meetings are already being held. Moreover, the building will house support teams from the Brazilian Presidency, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, among other public bodies. The communications teams are already working on site to produce content for the website, social media and radio, and to advance PR work.

“The location also harbors areas for bilateral meetings across eight different rooms. We have prepared the civil infrastructure as a whole, including the electrical part. We are prepared to provide the logical network that is necessary to access the internet and its services,” she explains.

The building, originally for Serpro, has the capacity to house approximately 800 people. The engineer clarifies that, during G20 events, an audience of around 300 people is expected to circulate at the venue.

Cutting-edge technological infrastructure

With advanced and secure IT infrastructure, Brasil is ready to meet the needs of G20 activities. The priority is cybersecurity and specialized support, in accordance with international standards, ensuring the maximum efficiency and security of the digital systems that will support activities.

To host the work during the Brazilian presidency, Serpro—an Information Technology (IT) company dedicated to providing services to the federal government— signed an agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The building is undergoing renovations until the end of February; currently, around 50 workers are on site on various service fronts. The work is expected to be completed in time to host the in-person events that begin in March.

The official headquarters of the G20 in Brasília are about to become not only the center of technological operations, but also a tangible testimony to Brasil's ability to host a global event such as the G20.
