Registration is open for the G20 Social Summit fairs, which will occur in Rio de Janeiro on November 14th, 15th, and 16th, 2024. The fairs held during the G20 Social Summit are intended to provide a space for sharing experiences and marketing products, in order to present the productive diversity of Brasil's society in accordance with socio-environmental sustainability and social agendas.

“We want to encourage the participation of networks, cooperatives, and centers that organize civil society initiatives and thus create a space for sharing experiences and marketing products based on collaboration, self-management, solidarity, and sustainability principles. These concepts are part of the selection process and should help us broaden social participation forms at the meeting,” says Renata Porto Bugni, sub-coordinator of the G20 Social. “The intention is for the fairs and all the activities planned for the G20 Social Summit to align with the three thematic axes stipulated by Brasil’s G20 presidency: Sustainability, Fight against Hunger, and Governance and Culture of the Peoples,” she explains.”

“By setting these themes as priorities for the Summit’s discussions, President Lula is joining the historical efforts of social movements and civil society organizations - both in Brasil and abroad - whose social demands have been repressed. These voices will be present in the most diverse socio-cultural and artistic expressions, as well as in the debates on the working drafts and in the fairs of the G20 Social Summit, which will present concrete experiences of the Brazilian people in the development of public policies in the areas that President Lula is asking the international community to develop," says the National Secretary for Social Participation, Renato Simões, of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (SGPR).

For the secretary, “fairs have this pedagogical role of demonstrating that the macro alternatives proposed by Brasil are already being experienced by citizens, and can therefore be considered good practices for fighting poverty and promoting social and environmental justice, as well as democracy and social participation in international relations,” he points out.

Registration categories

The Selection Committee, appointed by the SGPR, will analyze the applications for participation in the Fairs, considering the criteria established for each category.

Regional and product diversity will be considered in the selection for the fair. The Fair aims to value the local culture and promote the plurality of knowledge and practices. The event also promotes respect for diversity of gender, race, ethnicity, religion, and belief. It also emphasizes the preservation of the environment and the dissemination of conscious and responsible consumption practices. Applicants with proven track records of collaboration with social movements, civil society organizations, and identity collectives will receive priority.
