Press accreditation is now open for the coverage of the 1st Meeting of P20 Women Parliamentarians

Women parliamentarians from G20 nations and invited countries will debate social justice and sustainability

The House of Representatives has opened the accreditation period for Brazilian and foreign press professionals who will cover the 1st Meeting of Women Parliamentarians of the P20, the parliamentary forum of the G20. The meeting will be held on July 1st and 2nd at the Ruth Cardoso Cultural and Exhibition Center in Maceió, one of the G20 host cities.

With the theme “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” the women parliamentarians from the G20 nations and invited countries will discuss the priority topics of this year’s summit: climate change and sustainable development; social inclusion and the fight against hunger and poverty; and the reform of global institutions. The meeting will be an opportunity to increase the participation of parliamentarians in discussions that are at the forefront of global attention.

More than 200 national and international authorities have been invited to the meeting of women parliamentarians. In addition to the parliamentarians from the G20 countries and the countries invited to the Leaders’ Summit, the list includes all federal deputies and senators from Brazil, parliamentarians from Mercosur, Portuguese-speaking countries, as well as presidents of international parliaments and international organizations such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the UN.

The program will feature working sessions on the role of women in climate justice and environmental sustainability; initiatives to increase women's political participation and strengthen democracy; and the promotion of gender equality, women's economic empowerment, and overcoming racism. In addition to joint working sessions, the parliamentarians will have the opportunity to hold bilateral meetings to exchange experiences and information on topics of mutual interest.
