New host cities: Recife and Cuiabá are now part of the G20 meeting calendar
Altogether, 15 cities from the five regions of Brasil are going to host events and meetings during the G20 program. The idea is to diversify venues, taking discussions around topics from 22 Working Groups—as well as from Task Forces—to the whole country

Brasil’s G20 presidency has announced the inclusion of Recife and Cuiabá as host cities for the Group's thematic meetings and events in 2024. The inclusion of the two cities reflects the Brazilian presidency's commitment to expanding the scope of discussions and promoting the country's diversity.
The first 13 cities to host thematic Sherpa and Finance Track meetings were announced at the beginning of December. Now, with the addition of Recife and Cuiabá, Brasil has 15 host cities distributed across its five regions: the Central-West, the North, the Northeast, the Southeast and the South.

A highlight in the Northeast of Brasil, Recife—capital of the state of Pernambuco—is famous for its frevo, Carnival, cultural richness and idyllic beaches. Recife’s economy is driven by tourism. Meanwhile, the Suape Industrial Port Complex highlights Recife as an example of environmental commitment, promoting sustainable practices.
Cuiabá, in Brasil’s Central-West region, plays a crucial role in the dynamics of Brasil's economy. Home to the Geodetic Center of South America, the city has become a strategic place in the heart of the state of Mato Grosso, the epicenter of Brazilian production of soybean, corn and cotton; and home to the largest cattle herd in the country. It is also a biodiversity hub, serving as a starting point for discovering three different Brazilian biomes: Pantanal, Cerrado and Amazon.

Brasil’s leadership at the G20
On December 1, Brasil took on the rotating presidency of the G20, a group which encompasses the world’s 19 main economies, the European Union and—from this year on—the African Union. The Brazilian mandate is valid until November 30, 2024. During this period, Brasil will be responsible for coordinating more than 120 working group meetings, both virtually and in person. Furthermore, 28 ministerial meetings have been planned, culminating in the Summit of Heads of Government and State, on November 18 and 19, 2024, in Riio de Janeiro.
