A Câmara de Comércio Internacional (ICC, na sigla em inglês) tornou-se mais um membro fundador da Aliança Global contra a Fome e a Pobreza. The initiative is a priority of Brasil's G20 presidency and aims to mobilize resources and knowledge for implementing effective public policies to reduce food insecurity and poverty in the world.

“As the world business organization, ICC is uniquely positioned to leverage the expertise of the private sector to develop lasting and scalable solutions to sustainably and equitably feed the world,” explained ICC Secretary General John W.H. Denton AO.

“We applaud the Global Alliance initiative and are committed to driving large scale, integrated solutions to help the world’s poorest and most vulnerable populations. This is a further testament of the importance of international trade to eradicate hunger and poverty globally,” he added.

As a founding member of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, ICC endorses a mission to support and accelerate efforts to eradicate hunger and poverty (SDGs 1 and 2) while reducing inequalities (SDG 10). The Alliance also aims to revitalize global partnerships for sustainable development (SDG 17) and achieve other interlinked SDGs, championing sustainable, inclusive, and just transitions.

ICC’s participation is fundamental to the success of this collective effort and represents a further step in the fight against world hunger and poverty,” said Wellington Dias, Minister of Social Development and Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger.

“The Alliance is a proposal discussed and agreed upon by the G20 to expand the implementation of effective and extensive national programs to end hunger and poverty worldwide. Although it emerged within the G20, it is open to all countries and organizations that want to join,” he pointed out.

Experience

ICC acknowledges that hunger and malnutrition are direct consequences of poverty and inequality. The Chamber will support the Alliance by leveraging its unique expertise and network created with the ICC Agri-Food Initiative. It serves as a platform to share knowledge and lessons learned between public and private sector players in the agri-food space.

Building on ICC’s Permanent Observer Status to the United Nations General Assembly, the ICC Agri-Food Initiative has developed a strong partnership with the UN Rome-based agencies specialized in food and agriculture: the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Food Programme (WFP), and International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
