How to submit your proposal to the G20 leaders
New platform allows comments, votes and even registration of activities for the G20 Social Summit. The platform will receive suggestions from civil society until September 9; the objective is to increase the public's influence in the G20 debates.

Did you know that you can send suggestions to the G20, the meeting of world leaders that will take place in Rio de Janeiro in November?
The G20 Social Participatory platform allows any citizen of the world to participate in Public Consultations on the event, send and evaluate proposals, and register thematic activities to be held during the G20 Social Summit, which will take place from November 14 to 16. The proposals sent by the population will be compiled in a document and submitted to the leaders of the forum of the world's largest economies.
The launch of the G20 Social Platform was attended by social movements, such as the Landless Workers' Movement (MST), the World March of Women (MMM), the Black Coalition for Rights and the Brasil’s Indigenous People Articulation (APIB). Ministers Marina Silva (Environment), Márcio Macêdo (General Secretariat of the Presidency), and Wellington Dias (Development and Social Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger) were present.
Renato Simões, National Secretary of Social Participation, said that the creation of the G20 Social track - the third of the G20 - was a request by President Lula to bring to the center of the debate the discussions that affect the population and are forgotten by the leaders of the countries. According to Simões, the main themes are "fighting hunger, environmental sustainability and the reform of global governance", aligned with the thematic axes defined by the Brazilian presidency of the G20.
The government does not have an exact expectation, but expects “tens of thousands” of people to participate in the discussions on the platform. The website has been adapted - which in this section is available in Portuguese, English and Spanish - and any foreign citizen can register by presenting their passport and a photo, while Brazilians must present their CPF. The G20 Social Participatory is within Participatory Brasil, which already brings together discussions of the Brazilian population on public policies in the country.
In order to make it more user-friendly, the section will include the Communiqués of the 13 engagement groups that comprise the G20. The purpose is to facilitate public access to information on what was discussed in the final communiqués of the thematic groups of the world's 20 largest economies.
For Maria Fernanda Marcelino, representative of the World March of Women, the increase in civil society represents effective participation of demands that have existed for centuries. “We've been saying this for a long time, we need political commitment to end poverty, underrepresentation and inequality.” For her, the challenge is to make this participation the rule and not just the exception. “It indicates a desire and perhaps a suppressed demand to broaden the debate on inequalities in Brasil, Latin America and the world,” she explains.
How to access the G20 Social Platform

G20 Social Summit and destination of the document
Public participation will be received until September 9 in order to organize the summary of the popular contribution and the analysis and approval of the self-managed activities registered on the platform. The G20 Social will take place in the region of Praça Mauá, in Rio de Janeiro, between November 14 and 16.
The first day will be dedicated to activities suggested by the public, so that voices from all over the world can be heard. On the 15th, several plenary sessions will take place. On the last day of the Summit, the final document will be presented with the main ideas from the society, which will be submitted to the leaders of the world's 20 largest economies during the G20 Final Summit on November 18 and 19.
