From November 14 to 16, Rio de Janeiro will host the Global Alliance Festival Against Hunger and Poverty. The event, which features 30 artistic acts, is part of the G20 program and brings together the transformative power of culture and music to promote engagement and discussion on the hallmark of Brasil's G20 presidency, the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty. The festival is free of charge and will take place at Mauá Square from 5 p.m.
The full line-up for the three days includes Seu Jorge, Alceu Valença, Ney Matogrosso, Daniela Mercury, Diogo Nogueira, Fafá de Belém, Zeca Pagodinho, Maria Rita, Maria Gadú, Rachel Reis, Larissa Luz, Aguidavi do Jêje, Mateus Aleluia, Ilessi, Rita Benneditto, Afrocidade, Romero Ferro, Roberto Mendes, Mariene de Castro, Marcelle Motta, Pretinho da Serrinha, Teresa Cristina, Roberta Sá, Kleber Lucas, Jovem Dionísio, Tássia Reis, Jota.Pê, Jaloo and Lukinhas.
The Festival is divided into three themed nights. On Thursday (14), African ancestry and heritage are the guiding themes of the night “Muito Obrigado Axé” (Thank you Axé), which is inspired by the historic location of the event: the region of Pequena África (Little Africa), where enslaved Africans landed in Brasil and which today features places that revere the legacy of black culture. The musical direction is by Kainã do Jêje and Marcelo Galter (Aguidavi do Jêje).
The second night (15), entitled "The show must on," brings an unprecedented samba orchestra to celebrate Brasil's rhythm, people, art, movement, and streets. The musical direction is by Pretinho da Serrinha.
The third and final night, on Saturday (16), is entitled “Pro dia nascer feliz” (For a happy new day) and brings together multiple rhythms to celebrate diversity and hope for a future with social justice. The musical direction is by Marcus Preto and Mateus Simões (New Orchestra).
The event starts at 5 p.m. on the three days and features concerts by Black Bom, DJ Flash, and performances that promise to immerse you in the best of Rio's Black Music. The concerts continue at 6 p.m., and the party returns after the last performance, getting everyone dancing until the event ends.
In addition to the concerts, Mauá Square and the surrounding buildings will become a canvas for a spectacle featuring video mapping, lights, lasers, and sounds, with projections by visual artists Manuela Navas, Maribê, Thiago Santos, and Yan Carpenter.
The Global Alliance Festival Against Hunger and Poverty, which is scheduled for November 18 and 19, precedes the G20 Leaders' Summit and takes place alongside the G20 Social Summit, both in Rio de Janeiro.
