Reporter: The Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty was presented at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York by Wellington Dias, Brasil's Minister of Social Development and Assistance, Family, and Fight Against Hunger. The Alliance will bring together the efforts of governments and international organizations to implement practical solutions to eradicate hunger and poverty.

The minister invited leaders of all nations to join the initiative, which will be officially launched in November during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting gathered world leaders, civil society representatives, the private sector, youth, and artists to discuss solutions for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

Wellington Dias: An agenda with civil society, where we can try various experiences. The presence of countries, and also of Dr. Amina from the UN, and the integration needed so that by November at the G20, we can establish a World Forum of Entities that can collaborate, strengthen efforts, and act as an observatory to monitor the plans of each country.

Reporter: When asked about the opportunities for improving cooperation in the food sector in the coming years, Brazilian Minister Wellington Dias defended the Global Alliance as a mechanism to overcome food insecurity and poverty. He also invited world leaders to join the initiative, which aligns with the goals of eradicating poverty, zero hunger, and sustainable agriculture. He emphasized that the Alliance is open not only to G20 countries but to any country willing to participate.

Wellington Dias: Governments, entities, but we are also working with parliaments and the business sector. This is the orchestra with the participation of all, united by one commitment—the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty—to move forward in tackling world hunger and poverty by 2030.

Reporter: In the event, UN Secretary-General António Guterres called for collective efforts to address social inequalities. He said it is time to fulfill the promise of the 2030 agenda to end poverty and protect the planet. At the event, a video was shown presenting the proposal for the Global Alliance against Hunger and Poverty, along with a message from President Lula and First Lady Janja Lula da Silva.
