History
The PROAP was created as part of the public policies set to encourage post-graduate and research activities in Brazil. It was launched at the end of the 90´s with the first financial support programs for the post-graduation in the Country.
As the years went by the Program consolidated itself as an important tool for the maintenance and development of stricto sensu post-graduate programs in the public universities and research institutions throughout the Country – they constitute a fundamental financing source for all programs.
The Program has seen adjustments and reforms along the years in order to attend the ever changing necessities of the acdemic-scientific community. These changes include the expansion of areas of knowledge, adjustaments [jS1] in eligibility criteria and increase in the available resources.
PROAP has played a distinctive role in the improvement of research activities in Brazil, supporting post-graduate projects, professors and post-doctoral researchers in the most diverse areas of knowledge.
Summing up PROAP is a major program with a crucial role in the promotion of post-graduate programs and research in Brazil. It holds a historic of leading contributions for the qualification of human resources and the development of scientific knowledge in the Country.
