OPERATIONAL SAFETY
Anac Runway Recovery Manual Now Available in English
The Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac) has released the English version of the Manual of Operational Recovery Management for Runway Closure Events by a Disabled Aircraft. The objective is to make guidelines more accessible to foreign airlines operating flights to Brazil, as well as to serve as a reference for other countries interested in the subject.
The publication provides guidance on procedures for removing disabled aircraft from runways, as well as on the measures required to ensure operational safety during the recovery of airport activities following a runway closure. It also includes sample scripts, reports, checklists, and descriptions of equipment that can be used in such events.
Initially launched in Portuguese in March 2025, the manual is the result of a broad collaborative effort involving airlines, airport operators, associations, public agencies, and private institutions in technical discussions, drafting of texts, execution of simulation exercises, and exchange of experiences.
By making the manual available in English, Anac aims to broaden the dissemination of best practices, promote greater alignment with global aviation standards, and strengthen international cooperation in the civil aviation sector.
