ANAC opens sector consultation for Embraer eVTOL certification

The Brazilian National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) is making significant progress in the certification process for the EVE-100 aircraft, developed by EVE Soluções de Mobilidade Aérea Urbana LTDA, for EVTOL operations in Brazil.
Through the Department of Airworthiness, ANAC submitted, this Tuesday (December 12th), to the public consultation, the proposal for Airworthiness Criteria for the EVE-100 aircraft, which establishes the safety requirements that the aircraft must comply to be type certified and operate in Brazil. The proposal and respective rationale, available for access through the links below, marks a major regulatory milestone for EVTOL vehicles in the country.
The proposed airworthiness criteria were developed considering the unique characteristics of the EVE-100 aircraft and the operational concept proposed by EVE. The EVE-100 introduces new design elements and innovative operational dynamics, requiring a comprehensive reassessment of type certification requirements.
ANAC's analysis for the development of this proposal involved a multidisciplinary team, including engineers, pilots, regulatory experts, and representatives from EVE. The proposal took into account the three different flight phases of the EVE-100, including new requirements for the structural envelope, specific requirements to ensure the stability, maneuverability, and safety of the aircraft, bird strike impact, as well as an entire new subpart to address specific concerns about electric engines. Additionally, lightning protection requirements were adjusted, and the mandatory installation of flight recorders was proposed.
In the pursuit of international harmonization, ANAC took into account several interactions with different certification authorities and international organizations to ensure coherence with regulatory frameworks worldwide for EVTOL and similar operations.
ANAC reaffirms its commitment to safety and innovation in aviation, encouraging the participation of the aeronautical community and the general public. This milestone represents a significant step in integrating EVTOL aircraft into the Brazilian aeronautical landscape, promoting sustainable development in urban air mobility, and establishing Brazil as a reference for adopting innovative aviation technologies.
